WHAT IS OUVERTE?
Ouverte is a lingerie subscription box for modern women featuring ethical lingerie and lifestyle products by independent and new designers from around the world.
THE values BEHIND OUVERTE
The Making of the Conscious Woman
Fast fashion is modern phenomenon where designs are moved rapidly from catwalk to storefront by "optimising" the supply chain. Clothing and lingerie are produced cheaply and quickly by way of poor workmanship, overuse of synthetic fibres that are not biodegradable and appalling working conditions in developing cities across Asia. Sadly, We have been so used to fast fashion that we demand the same, if not even more of our lingerie purchases. $30 for 3 bras and no one bats an eyelid and few ever questioned how is it even possible given the cost of materials and labour.
Cheap lingerie is possible because of sweatshops and ecologically-unfriendly and unsustainable manufacturing processes. Thankfully, there are a growing number of independent brands who are making the supply chain more traceable through ethical practices. Most of these brands run on lean operations with little budget or time left for marketing and promotional efforts which ironically are crucial to the long term survival of a business.
So I founded Ouverte to advocate for these independent brands and provide them a honest and direct-to-consumer platform help their brand reach even more people. Additionally, I want Ouverte to be a space for educating people about the irreparable cost of fast fashion on our economy and our planet while providing them practical resources to take steps towards a sustainable lifestyle.
Celebrating the Sensual Woman
Women in Asia wear lingerie for only two reasons: for modesty or for their man. The idea of wearing lingerie for oneself is still somewhat unheard of. Pressure from conservative Asian values and culture to the pervasiveness of marketing messages, beauty standards and societal cues give Asian women no room to explore or express their sensuality.
I founded Ouverte to create this much needed space for women. A private, judgement-free zone where a woman can quietly enjoy getting to know her sensual side or rediscover the sensual spark within herself. To experience the thrill of wearing a beautiful piece of lingerie for no one but herself. To celebrate the body she has and be confident in her skin. To embrace her sensuality wholly.
Supporting independent and emerging brands
There are many independent designers and creators who have amazing products but limited resources to constantly market their creations.
Through Ouverte, I hope to connect more talented designers with appreciative audiences in Asia to help them widen their market reach. For customers, they get exposed to these brands and are encouraged to buy directly from the designers.
Unlike other lingerie subscription boxes, we do not white-label any of our products. With each collaboration, we include brand and product creation stories to share with our subscribers the detail and care that goes into the creation of every item in their lovingly curated Ouverte box.
About the woman behind Ouverte
If you've read everything above this section, then you would already know why I started Ouverte. As a full busted 28G, I want to help women discover the importance of a well-fitted bra. After decades of wearing the wrong sizes and thousands of hours of research and trying bras, I'm finally confident enough to help fit women and help them understand their real bra size(s).
Outside Ouverte, I'm a mother to a chatty toddler and a digital media designer by training but read English and Psychology at university. I'm married to an ultimate geek and indie-music lover, whose also my co-founder and eternal sparring partner in all business and mental arenas. In my free time, I like to read medical literature on Wikipedia, play video games on my aging PSP, and talk about anything and everything with my husband. I enjoy cooking and love throwing dumpling making parties with my friends. I also have an uncanny knack of remembering lyrics to most songs after only listening to them a few times.
